1 cup butter
1 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 Tbl. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 cups flour
3 tsp. baking powderCream butter and sugar. Add eggs, milk and vanilla and cream well Sift together flour and baking powder and add to sugar mixture. Chill dough 10 minutes. Roll out and cut with cookie cutters. Bake on a greased cookie sheet at 400 degrees F. until very light brown. May be frosted or painted with glaze.
Cookie Glaze (from the kitchen of Cleo Nesham)
egg whites, slightly beaten (not foamy)
powdered sugar, sifted
food coloringMix egg whites and sugar, adding sugar until glaze is the consistency of enamel paint. Add food coloring (don't skimp--you can get nice, bright colors with this stuff). Brush on cookies with a watercolor paint brush. You can sprinkle on decors while glaze is still wet. Let dry overnight.
(Since you don't cook the egg whites, make sure to use fresh, clean, uncracked eggs.)
