1-1/2 cups raisins
1-1/2 cups chopped dates
2 cups sugar
5 Tbl. shortening
2 cups boiling water
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cloves
3 cups flour
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup mixed candied fruit
pecan halves and candied cherries for garnishSimmer raisins, dates, sugar, and shortening in water for 20 minutes. Cool. Sift together dry ingredients and stir into raisin mixture. Mix in pecans and fruit. Grease and flour two loaf pans and arrange pecan halves and candied cherries in the bottom. Pour in cake batter. Bake at 325 degrees F.for 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 hours (test for doneness with a toothpick).
